A while back again, we warned for scammers : you get a phone call in which you get a "one-off" chance to register your company name as .com and / or .eu for a lot of money. In retrospect, at outrageously high rates. Also current emails or letters to extend your domain, which actually involves a move to a provider.

Now there was a story about a fake lawyer who wrote threatening letters to owners of domain names calling for the domain name to be transferred within 48 hours, yes that is a bit of a shock. Because it can happen that a large company contacts you because you have a domain that resembles one of their trade names.

What can we learn from this?

  1. First of all quietly. If someone contacts you, take some time to think. In the above cases, something goes wrong when you go directly to the offer or requirement.
  2. If a domain name needs to be registered quickly, do it with your own hosting provider. You do not pay much and you will not face any surprises.
  3. Identify the identity of the contact person. You often see through Google what kind of meat you have in the tub.
  4. If necessary, contact your advisor (or give us a call, we are there for you).

If you have experience with the above issues, I am curious about your story and tips
